Biography
For nearly three decades, Deborah “Debbie” Sandlin has dedicated her practice to family law, representing clients and assisting fellow attorneys with skill, preparation, and unwavering professionalism. Since beginning her practice in 1998, Debbie has built a reputation as a hardworking advocate who combines deep legal knowledge with practical advice and compassionate representation.
Debbie is a Board Certified Specialist in both Family Law and Appellate Practice, a distinction held by only four attorneys in North Carolina. She is also one of only two attorneys in the state who not only maintain dual certification but continue to actively litigate family law cases while regularly handling appeals. Her unique combination of trial and appellate experience gives her a comprehensive perspective on family law litigation—from preserving issues at trial to pursuing successful outcomes on appeal.
Throughout her career, Debbie has represented clients in trial courts across North Carolina and regularly participates in matters before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court. She has been involved in numerous cases resulting in both published and unpublished opinions, including several decisions that have become important and influential precedents in North Carolina family law.
Known for her meticulous preparation, strong work ethic, and practical approach, Debbie believes that excellent advocacy begins with honesty. She is committed to providing clients with candid advice, realistic expectations, and strategic guidance rather than simply telling clients what they want to hear. While she is undeniably results-oriented, she never loses sight of the fact that family law clients are navigating some of the most difficult and personal moments of their lives. Her goal is to combine effective advocacy with compassion, professionalism, and respect for every client she serves.
In addition to representing clients in family law matters, Debbie is frequently consulted by other attorneys regarding appellate issues, preservation of the record, and post-trial motions. Her experience at both the trial and appellate levels allows her to provide valuable insight at every stage of litigation.
Outside the practice of law, Debbie enjoys traveling, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and devoting countless hours to animal rescue work. She has been actively involved in dog rescue for more than thirteen years and remains passionate about caring for the many dogs who have found their way into her life through those efforts.
